For over 17 years, Grandma's House of Hope (GHH) has been providing vulnerable adults experiencing homelessness in Orange County with emergency and transitional housing to regain stability, well-being, and lasting self-sufficiency. As you can imagine, it’s not an easy job and requires employees to have a unique skillset to help residents get back on their feet. Proper training is key to keeping everyone safe, and GHH running.

Barbara Curtis-Nyenti, HR & Operations Manager, Grandma’s House of Hope

No one knows that better than Barbara Curtis-Nyenti, HR & Operation Manager at Grandma’s House of Hope who saw a rise in employee injuries and claims during the COVID-19 pandemic. She knew some changes were needed to keep GHH running. That’s when she met with Andrew Venegas, one of our loss prevention engineers who introduced her to State Fund’s Online Safety University℠, a training platform and learning management system free to our policyholders.

Online Safety University℠, offers employers more than 300 safety training courses for employees and supervisors. The training platform helped GHH mitigate areas of safety concern across their workplace.

“The on-demand training has allowed us the opportunity to complete the training when convenient since it is accessible at any time. Refresher trainings are also now a click away when needed,” Barbara told us. “And we have seen a vast reduction in claims over the years after implementing our safety trainings online. Sometimes we even forget what a claim form looks like.”

Since implementing State Fund’s Safety University℠, Grandma’s House of Hope has been able to:

  • Reduce the frequency of claims
  • Streamline training efforts to improve employee engagement
  • Equip new employees with proper safety training
  • Keep safe work practices top of mind

Kudos to Barbara and everyone at Grandma’s House of Hope for investing in their staff and providing them with safety training tools to help them stay safe on the job.
