1. Who is eligible to apply during the initial launch? State Fund Safety Equipment Grants are exclusively available to State Fund Policyholders by invitation only. Policyholders with reported payroll in Roofing (5552, 5553), Sheet Metal (5538-1, 5538-2, 5542-1, 5542-2), Carpentry (5403, 5432), and Tree Workers (0106) are eligible at this time.  
      2. Is the grant expanding to include any other classes? Not at this time.
      3. Are there any policies that are ineligible? State Fund Safety Equipment Grants are exclusively available to State Fund Policyholders by invitation only. Policyholders who have not yet received an invitation by State Fund or who have reported zero payroll for their policy are not eligible at this time.
      4. I have multiple entities, can they all apply? Only invited entities may apply, with one application per policy.
      5. If I have covered locations outside California are they eligible to receive funds? State Fund Safety Equipment Grants are only available to policyholders based in California and are intended for use within California.
      6. Will the Other States Coverage (OSC) program be funded for equipment grants outside California? Only the California operations of Other States Coverage policyholders may qualify. The grant funds must be used within California. 
      7. Can policies with headquarters out of state apply? State Fund Safety Equipment Grants are only available to policyholders that have a permanent location in California and are intended for use by California domiciled employees. Shipping must be to a California location.
      8. If my policy is cancelled, can I apply before it’s reinstated? Only current policyholders in good standing may apply at this time.

      Application and approval process  

      1. When can I apply? Policyholders in the applicable class codes will be invited via email to apply 16 calendar days after their policy renews or incepts.       3. Can I mail in an application? Applications for this grant are to be submitted online.
      4. What is required to apply? You must have at least one reported employee who works at a height of at least six feet. All applicants will be asked to complete or upload a current Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) using State Fund’s IIPP Builder℠. You must apply within 90 calendar days of receiving the invitation, and be in good standing. 
      5. How long is the application process? After policyholders submit applications, an email receipt confirmation is sent and an approval or denial will be emailed within ten business days. If approved, policyholders have 30 calendar days to select equipment from the catalog.
      6. How long will it take to receive my equipment? Once equipment has shipped, policyholders will receive a confirmation email from the equipment provider. Some equipment may take longer to ship as it is subject to availability.
      7. How many times can I apply? Once per policy.
      8. Will there be any additional requirements to qualify? All applications are subject to review. Following review, you may be asked for additional information to ensure that you receive the right safety equipment for your business. State Fund may impose additional requirements and standards to qualify for grants.
      9. Do I have to commit to anything to apply? Please upload or create an Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) using State Fund’s IIPP Builder℠.
      10. Where do I find my policy number? On your invitation or the Declaration Page of your policy.
      11. Can I appeal if I am not awarded this grant? If you were denied this grant, please follow the instructions in the denial email, or submit your appeal to SafetySupport@scif.com within ten calendar days of the date of the denial email.  
      12. Who is eligible to apply? Invited policyholders, or invited policyholder representatives can submit applications.
      13. How will I know that State Fund received my application? If you submitted your application and did not receive a confirmation email, please reach out to us at SafetySupport@scif.com for assistance.
      14. How long before I will know if I have been approved? Within ten business days.
      15. How much do I qualify for? Is there a limit? Each policy is unique. Once you complete the application, we can determine your grant amount. Your grant amount is limited up to $10,000 and will include sales tax and standard ground shipping. State Fund’s Board of Directors has approved up to $25 million and once the grant funds run out, State Fund will no longer be accepting applications.
      16. Can I spend more than my awarded grant amount and pay the difference? If your order exceeds the amount of your grant, you will be prompted to enter a credit card number to complete the order.

      Other questions

      1. Will this impact my dividend, should one be declared? No, receipt of a grant will not impact dividends.
      2. Will I have to contribute to the cost of this equipment? No, State Fund will cover the cost of the equipment up to the awarded grant amount and will pay for sales tax and ground shipping.
      3. Will I have to pay this money back? No, this is a grant, not a loan.
      4. Are there any tax implications? State Fund is not in a position to provide tax advice. Receipt of free goods can be considered a taxable event. We suggest that you check with your tax professional.
      5. Will I be issued a 1099? State Fund will issue Form 1099-Misc to policyholders who receive the grant. Policyholders are responsible for any tax liabilities arising from participation in the grant program. As State Fund is not in a position to provide tax advice, we advise you to consult with your tax professional.
      6. Will this impact the cost of my insurance in the future? Receiving an equipment grant will not impact the cost of your insurance.
      7. Can my business receive the funds directly to make an equipment purchase on our own? Equipment must be purchased through State Fund’s supplier for the grants.
      8. Can I purchase equipment and receive a premium credit? Grants will be awarded for the purchase of equipment and will be completely separate from premium.
      9. Can I receive premium credit for equipment recently purchased? State Fund is unable to provide premium credit. The grant program is solely for the purchase of new equipment.
      10. What happens if I miss the eligibility window (90 days?) You must apply within 90 days of receiving your invitation email. Once the grant funds run out, State Fund will no longer be accepting applications.
